Why You Should Participate in the CrossFit Open
The CrossFit Open is the first round of competition on the road to the CrossFit Games, and the greatest thing about it is that everyone can participate. This blog on the CrossFit Games website will fill you in on all the nitty-gritty information about the Open, but what I want to communicate here is that you need to participate! Even if you don’t see yourself getting to the next level, it’s a great time to build a fitness community in your area and get involved with your local CrossFit gym.
Because we at FTP typically work with athletes and athletic adults (and we’re located right across the street from CrossFit Oconee), we get a lot of CrossFit athletes through our doors. But we also get a lot of athletes who don’t do CrossFit, and it’s our collective opinion that the CrossFit Open is an easy and effective way to get involved in a community that can be vital to your fitness journey. Cody, one of our athletes (also a CrossFitter), had this to say about participating in the Open:

“I think the [CrossFit] Open is a great way to track performance over different years of fitness– that’s one of the main reasons why I do it– and so going into it without nagging aches, pains, [or] injuries is always helpful because you know, there’s nothing holding you back, so you can give it your best shot and see how you stack up.”
Even if you don’t qualify for the semifinals, completing the Open is admirable, and it says a lot about how much you value your fitness journey.
But why am I writing about participating in the Open on my physical therapy blog? Because what I offer is essential to the performance of a CrossFitter (or even just people who work out regularly and have fitness goals they’d like to achieve). In addition to being a licensed physical therapist, I’m also a CrossFit coach, and I have the unique ability to not only teach you skills you’ll need in your CrossFit workouts but also help you solve your nagging aches or pains in the process. I’ll be participating in the Open as well, so I also have personal knowledge of the skills you need to simply complete the workout.
As always, my goals turn into your goals when you walk through FTP’s doors, so let’s get started on your CrossFit Open prep today!
